In the Mood ~

The Moody Blues took me to spaces I'd never been ~
To view cases I'd never regret ~
In places I'd never return from... ever.

I think it may have been 2002-3, when I saw the Moody Blues in an open air concert. Who knew they'd sound better live than on my CD's? Not me. I loved, loved, loved that concert. The concert of my life.

When I'm in the mood - it's usually for them. They ground me in their lyrics and musical arrangements. The last BOTB is over, and I seek the peace that passes all understanding. Enter Moody Blues...

  1. Speaking of being MOODY and BLUE...

I went back and re-counted your BOTB votes TWICE (because my math skills SUCK BUTTERMILK!) and... NOT counting YOUR vote, dp, Leona Lewis won 8 to 7.

If we can still faithfully trust that you yerself voted for Leona (as you originally stated) then Whitney Houston (aka Leona Lewis) won this BOTB 9 votes to 7.

But your final count shows Leona LOSING the Battle 9 to 7.

My doctor prescribed beer for my mental condition (and lots of it!) and it has really helped. Shall I share with you the brands that have helped me the most?

[I know I kind of screwed you up a little bit with my joke about Arlee - which I thought was pretty obviously a joke - but, seriously now - I recommend you take 6 12-ounce doses of Great Basin Brewing Company's 'Ichthyosaur' ("Icky") IPA and call me in the morning.

Thanks, I have corrected my mistake in the write up part. I wasn't sure what you meant at first.

Won't do beer or anything like that. I've got 25 years clean and sober now. Oh, but the last couple of days... if I were a drinking soul, I'd be drunken soul.

It's no problem. I have this huge tendency to overreact, (Yeah, say it's not so.). Add a full plate and there ain't no tomatoes on it? I'm ticked. I'm just trying to be fair. I didn't care who won. I don't care who has side bets, or side issues. It's none of my business.

Now who woulda thunk you had a mental condition? I would have thought that the Rocket J. Squirrel school of hard rocks would have straightened you out - years ago. Whereas I am still trying to pull a rabbit of out of my hat.

I'm headed to bed soon as I hear the guys play one more time. Thank you for your help and kindness.

    2. Rocket J. Squirrel has been a blessing for me.

It's Bullwinkle J. Moose I have issues with. (That guy is D-U-M-B-! I mean, dumber'n Gomer and Goober put together.)

    3. Wait. Bullwinkle has middle initial J, like Rocket? Does it stand for "Justa"?

      Oh wow! That's really dumb!

  2. There was a time, for a couple of years, where I was pretty infatuated with the Moody Blues' album 'LONG DISTANCE VOYAGER'.

Naturally, I also owned the LP 'DAYS OF FUTURE PASSED', like everyone else did. It's only now that I realize how much their album cover art on that one was inspired by The Dave Brubeck Quartet's legendary Jazz album 'TIME OUT'.

It's best to only, ever be infatuated with our Lord and King. You know that, and you live that.

I used too go to orchestra concerts in school; loved them. So, when the Moody Blues brings their own violins and such, to the party of my life that's craves sound... I plays them loud and clear. I'm in the mood for peace. That's all.

I appreciate your links to Long Distance Voyager, and Time Out. I promise to check them out later. No worries.

  3. hmmm... I just listened to the video linked to the post. I know I have heard of the Moody Blues but could not place their music until the videos started to play.

I like their music. However, it sounds a bit dated to me.

    1. Hi Lauren - you betcha it's dated! I'm one of those people who hear a song and think, "ooh, that's great," but the song will be ten years old by the time I hear it. Makes no difference to me - I'll still listen if I enjoy it.

I'm the same way with television. For example: I called my Mom and said, "hey I'm watching this cute little show about an alien who eats cats."

And she responding, "Dixie, 'Alf' was cancelled ten years ago - you're watching reruns."

All that said, dear Lauren, you could join BOTB and help bring me into the current century of sound. We know you're genius when it comes to animation and all things designed. C'mon, Lauren, give it a thought!!!

      Thanks for visiting!

    2. Well, thank you very much for those compliments!
I'm afraid I don't understand BOTB. What would joining Battle of the Bands entail?

    3. This is the link to my last battle. Rules are pretty easy. Two versions of the same song. It's my April 15th post:

      http://cringe53.blogspot.com/2015/04/battle-8-run-for-your-life-for-cause.html

My last battle, the song was called, "Run". I chose the Snow Patrol (who was the original group to write and record the song.) My challenger to them was Leona Lewis, a British soloist who did the song three years ago.

Then we all come visit you and vote for the song version we like the best. If you'd like more information, click on that big badge - under the follow widget. It will take you to Stephen T. McCarthy's blog.

I hope that didn't totally confuse you. I think I may be, but it's late for me. (smile)

    4. Hey Dixie, sorry it took me so long to get back to you. Unfortunately I am afraid I cannot add battle of the band posts to my blog because I am trying to keep the blog focused on game design. However, I enjoy the battle and will stop by this blog to vote! Thanks!

    5. Lauren, thank you for giving consideration. That reminds me, I don't think I've visited you since the A-Z frenzy!

Feel free to vote here and on other battle sites too. Thanks!

  4. Hey Dixie,
I think I'm losing my mind. I would've sworn that I posted a comment here about the HER'ES TO YOU. I saw that you posted something and deleted it on my post. And now the comment I thought I left is gone. I hope Blogger is messing with me (and I didn't offend you).

The obvious reason I dedicated that to you is that it featured Run by Snow Patrol. The less obvious reason is that it featured the events of the two-part episode from Grey's Anatomy (my all-time favorite episodes of that show) with a fairly comprehensive/understandable plot. Its The End Of The World As We Know It. I thought it fitting that Grey's took a show in which people might die and paired it with Run after reading your introduction of how the song Run came to be written. The whole someone might day today. I just love interesting coincidence, and I thought you might like it, too.

Anyway, very sorry if I offended you in any way. Those posts are NOT intended that way AT ALL.

I read your comment to StMc... I hope your own Moody Blues pass soon!

    1. Oh Robin - no! No offense taken, and if you're losing your mind I hope you'll send some this way. I could use it! Every where I went that day, I spelled the word, 'thanks' as 'thnaks' - no more coffee near the laptop!! I hd four keys acting crazy. I delted and retyped three of the blog comments but when I came to your blog, the phone rang and I got distracted. Until I saw your comment on the battle page, I didn't realize I hadn't changed yours out.

I guess I felt embarrassed because I forgot. I remember deleting the comment on the battle page, thinking, what a ditz I am. Where are those brain cells I saved for old age. I may need them sooner. I intended to post it back to you but didn't copy and paste it all (???).

Oh yes, Snow Patrol is the background was interesting - such a traumatic episode. I went online to watch it. I really was hoping I wasn't being encouraged to bathe with two women and a guy(Ha!) or have a broom closet quicky! (Wait, maybe that part would have been okay?!) And surely I didn't have the guts to hold a device from going off. (unless we're back to the broom closet - Dixie!!!) But yes, I did understand the 'Here's to you' post. Brilliant really.

Absolutely no offense, and I hope I haven't offended you. Outside of blog-land has been stressful. Too many projects - so little energy. I know you know. Also experiencing a lot of physical pain - long story - pain pills knock me out, and also are scary to take. I'd rather feel like I'm in the world. It's not like me to numb out.

[It's spring and I have yard things, and furniture to take out and renovate. Then I have clients that want paintings, or painted furniture done for them. Just finished a child's dresser and vanity seat for a nine year old. She wanted the three foot mirror to look like an aquarium, with fish floating by. It came out precious!]

Robin, it's very kind of you to stop back, and try to figure which end I have up. I'm heading out to paint Chinese characters on a client's black lacquered chairs. This will be interesting. I'm using 14K Gold Acrylic paint. Should be beautiful.

      >>"I read your comment to StMc..." Robin, I thought he was serious. The rules say we come back on the 21st, add the votes, blah, blah, blah. Problem is I tally at midnight - and maybe that's too early. And I want to think that everyone is really voting for the song they like. But these guys have this 'game' going on. I don't think I need to know. It was kind of a letdown at the moment. Anyway, it's over, and now I do know. But I'll never feel certain that someone is voting for the battle or voting to pit against another. (Just leave me in the quickie broom closet.) Ha!

    2. Are you saying that you watched the entire two hours of Grey's Anatomy because of that video???? Wow. If so, I'm really impressed.

Just an FYI: I think the first three seasons of Grey's Anatomy might be some of the best TV of this decade. Mind you, I still really like the show, but in those first three years it was HOT. On fire. Just nailed it every week. Every now and then I decide I'm going to rewatch Grey's over the summer (when TV is mostly waning). I never get further than the third season, but it's okay... because they were the best:)

    3. Most of it. My god-daughter has it all recorded and is loaning the dvds this coming week. My goodness, I'm not blood and guts, so it's a bit scary, but great acting and story line. I wanted to see how all the different flashes (from the clip) fit together. The song is more haunting.

I'll let you know. Thank you, Robin.
