He was my first Valentine. I didn't mind playing second banana to the head cook. She was alright too. I really wanted to drive, but my Mom owned the only automatic in the family. That meant I would be learning to swap gears, or sit at home. What do you think happened?
Last year I saw this video over at Robin's blog home. (Your Daily Dose). I knew I had to get the link on it. Even though the singer, Miranda Lambert, was driving a 1955, I felt the old sensation of my Dad's 1965!! Born and raised in the inner city, climbing into that truck gave me "this sensation" - no, not a peppermint patty moment - but I suddenly sang with a twang. (Help.)
My Dad had a gun rack against the long back window. He kept his umbrella there, and later a walking cane. But you might have no idea, and I don't have the words to describe, what I felt cruising down the highway at 70 mph., playing all of his country tapes. No modern music allowed! Ever! Well, not until the Beatles, "Hey Jude," He didn't want the tape, but if it came on the radio he cranked it up! You just learned to suck it up. (I hated country music for the longest time.)
Alright, I'll shut it... here's the video. Just remember what Miranda says: "Hey whatever happened to, waiting your turn... doing it all by hand?" It's important... and so was driving that dang old truck!

those pet valentines
Dedicated to my sweet dog, "Whiskers." There was a trooper. If that dog had talked, I'd have stayed in serious trouble.
I remember when I got my driver's license. He went with me to the store. Some boys pulled up beside my car, and thought it was two girls! Hahaha!
Whiskers was born on Valentine's Day. He'd just turned 18 before he passed away.
This song is written from the perspective of the dog. I'd like to think if Whiskers had had the talent, this would have been "our" song!

Will You?
The first time I heard this love song, I didn't know what it meant. I just liked singing and dancing to it. The original, recorded by the Shirelles, was the only version for me for many years.
Time goes by and we get older; maybe another version touches our heart.
No, it's not the Shirelles... no one can replace or top that version for me. Yet, this one has become a favorite. I wished many times to have seen them in concert... oh well.
