Easy spin ~

It was just a easy listening song. It reminds me of a young gentleman in a time long ago. Him, talking about how life touches everything... then he played this song. I hope I never forget him.

  1. Hi, Dixie! I predict that you will never forget that young man. That pleasant memory of him is embedded in your mind and will be recalled every time you listen to this song by the Association or any of their other songs (by "association"). This California based soft rock, folk rock, psychedelic sunshine pop group emerged in the mid 60s and helped transform the pop music landscape with their complex song lyrics, intricate arrangements and exquisite harmony. The Association's first hit single, "Along Comes Mary," remains my favorite, but I love and have fond memories attached to several others including "Cherish," a very popular slow dance at my Shady Dell hangout, "Windy," a song that reminds me of my job as a supermarket produce clerk in the summer of '67, and "Never My Love," a record that was near the top of the chart when I left town and moved to State College, PA, to begin four years of study at the main campus of PSU.

Thank you for triggering happy memories for me today, dear friend Dixie!

    1. Hi Shady! I didn't expect such a wonderul, insightful comment. Thank you for that. The Association was new to me in high school. I don't know how or why, I always seemed to be two steps behind whatever played on the radio. My head was usually buried in a book, or else writing. My Dad was in college, and would dropped me at the library for hours. I don't know that I was smart, but certainly incredibly curious. Which explains my interest in some blogs. Some, like your own, seem to anticipate the questions that readers form from within. Alex, Stephen, and Arlee, have that same uncanny ability to do the same. It sounds akin to journalism.

I am not yet 'there' in the music world, and may never hit that sweet spot, but it won't be from trying, and doing research thst satisfies me. I do think my A-Z theme has moved me a step closer in anticipation of questions and reader curiosity. Alex, and Arlee have been huge supporters. The lessons can't help but tumble upon this blog, hopefully to add enrichment. We'll see.

Thank you very much for your time. I don't think I'll ever think of The Association in quite the same manner. I only knew a couple of songs. "Never my love" had such beautiful keyboard work - I guess that was my favorite. I'll listen to the others you named. I might actually know them! Have a lovely evening, (smile).

      "Triggering"? Call me Dale Evans!

  2. Songs really get connected to individuals and events in my psyche. As sappy as it might seem, there are many songs that can make me tear up in the first few bars. A good lyricist is work his weight in gold.

I was thinking about this at church today when they played two songs that I find particularly moving - I can't believe they were in the same service. Point being, it's not just my beloved rock-n-roll that can do that to me!

Love the Association - great post, Dixie!

    1. Dear Cherdo, I so totally agree. There are songs I sang in high school choir, college, church, weddings...you name it... connected to a place, a face, a feeling, a reeling... in time.

Thank you for stopping in, and leaving such a kind comment. (smile).

  3. This song and just about every song from this great group I've listened to countless times. The Association was such a great group. Some incarnation of the band still continues to tour.

Thanks for the kind acknowledgement in the comment above.
