Results Post for Feb. 1st ~ when we were, 'In the Mood'

Welcome back - it's the RESULTS POST for the February 1st Battle of the Bands... and my little tale of love for the "Lost & Found - Valentine's Edition," featured my grandfather, and his huge impact on my musical upbringing.  Both blog events were fun; thank you hosts!!

Along with my love tale, I featured, "In the Mood, " written and composed by Bob Garland. The two versions were very different, but almost everyone wanted Jeff Tyzik's full orchestration. I can't blame you; I loved it too. That left the swinging piano sound of Shirin hanging out to dry. So here's the vote - an epic blowout, but I am so impressed that many loved the "Big Band Sound." Sorry piano buffs, (smile).

Grand Tally -whoa!
Jeff Tyzik - 18 votes (including mine)

Shirin's piano - 4 votes

Jeff made quite the impression, and I have decided to hit you with more of his program and sound. He isn't all about "the swing." He's quite versatile. I especially want to leave you with this song, called, "Better and Better," from his 1982 album, "Radiance". You will (I promise) love this. From Swing to Jazz - take it Jeff!

I'm closing with a big thank you to our music event hosts:
FAE
Stephen T. McCarthy

Next Battle Date: Monday, Feb, 15, 2016... Hope to see you here!

Yep, youz right: 'BETTER AND BETTER' was mahvelous!

I never heard of this guy before, so thanks for the introduction! How'd you learn about him?

From what I've heard so far (just these two tracks from you), his music is very derivative from various sources, but he does it so well!

This one sounded almost like it could be TV show theme music. Let NO ONE think that's a put-down. I think some really great music has been composed for TV themes. Heck, I even own a CD of famous TV theme songs and some of that stuffs is really cool light Jazz. Love it!

The theme from TAXI, MASH, HILL STREET BLUES, BARNEY MILLER, MOONLIGHTING, THE ROCKFORD FILES - man, I love dat stuffs! It's "REAL" music!

    1. Ironically, you've had some battles featuring Jazz and so I went looking for something I liked. That, and Tyzik has covered lots of Big Band songs. He fit in nicely with the "L&F" blog-hop!

I do have a link that gives you everything you want to know about him. And yes, he still tours.

TV show themes are great. In fact, I featured "Moonlighting" on my other blog for today. I bet you could do a battle of TV themes... I bet.

  3. Sorry I missed your battle, but I still want to read your Valentine's Day post. I agree with Stephen that this song does sound like it could've been from a hit TV show.

    1. Hey Julie! Glad you made the "L&F" hop... I often wonder if I post the results s little to early. I'm on the East coast and midnight is usually my shut-off time. (Maybe I could mention that in my future battles.)

I looked up the song, "Better and Better"... it seems to be a song of Tyzik's. Verification still pending.

  4. Hi, Dixie!

Somehow I manage to wind up on the losing squad in most of these band battles. I like the big band sound and would have voted for Jeff's orchestra if the tempo hadn't been quite so frantic. It made me nervous (but, then again, thrash metal has a calming effect on me, so go figure :) I prefer a groove rhythm and liked the tune you posted today better and better! :)

Have a wonderful week, dear friend Dixie!

    1. Aw, Shady... I don't want you to feel bad. My battles have been strange over the last couple of months. The difference this time, was when I decided to vote for the winner. Yep, I can do that since I'm the last one to vote on here, (smile)

Thrash metal has a calming effect on you? Doesn't that defy the genre name, somehow?

Have a great week too. I'll visit soon.

  5. The pianist was good, but apparently not good enough for the voters. That big band recording really rocked.

  6. Nice piece of 'Smooth Jazz'. I admit to being a bit surprised, because I thought you said (at my site) that you really didn't care for Jazz. Well, maybe you like some jazz or some people who like jazz, or something else jazzy. Are you confused yet? I know I am.

    1. Funny, I do remember writing that at your place... I need to figure "what" jazz I like... I guess?!!

  7. Wow... Better and Better sounds very different from In The Mood. Versatile musician. I really enjoyed both pieces.
