Oct 15th Battle or (Halloween sing-along time.)

Welcome to Battle of the Bands!!!

A rousing 'Hhhowl' and thank you to our friends,  and event hosts:

FAE

Today a little something for fun!!!  I'm presenting two different songs. Each song comes from an animated movie, and features a scene from the movie. Lyrics are on screen. There are a couple of still shots that are featured, but no video. Listen to both, and vote for the one you like.

Contestant # 1- "Oggie Boggie Man" from the movie, "Nightmare Before Christmas."

Contestant # 2- "Be Prepared" from the movie, "The Lion King".

If you would like to listen, and vote in other battles, please see the participant list in the right hand margin. If you would like to join this bi-monthly blog-event, visit the blog host, Stephen T. McCarthy. Leave him a message, and your blog address. We would love to have you participate.

I'll be back on the 21st to tally the votes and post the results.

Oh, I vote 'OOGIE BOOGIE' through and through! I like that old 1920's / very early '30's Jazz feel of it and the over-the-top vocal flair of the guy singing... or yakking... it.

I will say though... Cheech Marin and I have a long history together. But I think he made a better Chicano comedian than he did a laughing hyena.

    1. My Stars! I completely misspelled the song title. Was I thinking of the country version? Oggie Boggie??

      ~D-FensDogG,

The 1920's- 30's Jazz was my grandfather's favorite. Good memories there:)

With Marin, the 'behind the scenes' stuff is even funnier! Got your vote. Thank you.

  2. My vote goes to Oogie boogie!! He's awesome and Nightmare before Christmas is one of my favorite movies! I love all the songs on that soundtrack. Such a great idea. I am mad that I didn't think about posting Halloween songs such its my favorite holiday.

    1. Hi Holli! I enjoy this movie soundtrack too.

Looks like Oogie Boogie may trample Scar. We'll see. Got your. Thank you.

  3. A bit too much drama for me in The Lion King song. Besides a singing lion is so unrealistic. On the other hand the Santa song is so realistic--that film was a documentary wasn't it? Okay, I jest.

Still, I had more fun with the "Oogie Boogie" song. It had a Cab Calloway vibe and I enjoy his stuff.

Put me down for the "Nightmare" song. It's more in keeping with the season as well.

    1. Yeah, LEE, you nailed it, man! It's very Cab Calloway-ish. That's who I was trying to think of but my mind couldn't quite bring the name up.

    2. Lee, there is drama - crazy tale, but I love the musical score with it! I'll log you for Oggie Boogie. Thank you.

    3. I'll have to check out Cab Calloway - he does sound familiar.

  4. I like both of these, Dixie. However, the arrangement in the first is just stellar. I can't vote against the Oogie Boogie. So, Oogie Boogie wins it for me!

  5. Oogie Boogie gets my vote. I thought at first I'd be voting for Lion King, just by sheer reputation, but I much more enjoyed the Oogie Boogie.
    Fun battle!

  8. Dixie-chick-a, what fun songs to duel with Halloween so near. Both are excellent, but I think I enjoyed the fun nostalgic feel of "Oogie Boogie" better. I think John nailed it when he said, "had that Cab Calloway vibe" and that's good enough for me, too. lol So, give that song another vote. ;) Fun battle!

  9. Definitely Oogie Boogie! The singer sounds like James Earl Jones. ☺ I'm with John and Cathy on the "Cab Calloway vibe" too.

  11. Two completely different songs. I wonder how this is going to go. Hope whatever the outcome, you are prepared to announce the winner. Oh my vote? I've already prepared my vote.
Vote for the Lion King ditty.

    1. Thanks, Jeffrey. I really needed a vote for Scar. I thought Lion King would be more popular, but that didn't happen here. Not sure how bad this is going to be - looks pretty lonesome about now!

Got your vote, and thanks again. You just saved the day! (smile)

  12. OMG, sorry, no contest here, Oogie all the way. He's just so dispicable. Love love that scene in the movie - which is also one of my fav (christmas) movies, lol.

Scar is truly dispicable, of course, such a worthy villian. But Oogie just unravels me every time :)

    1. Hi Donna!
You said it best - two worthy, despicable villains. I like the movie a lot! I usually dig it out around Thanksgiving.

Thank you for your vote for Oogie! (smile)

  13. SCAR! SCAR! SCAAAAAARRRRR! OMG, Jeremy Irons — but of course he aces it! (Even if he did need a bit of help for this song...) The creepiness and ruthlessness comes through so well in his voice. Yep, Scar. No question. No contest. (And MINORITIES RULE! :D )

Well said...," The creepiness and ruthlessness comes through so well in his voice." Bad guy takes hostage(s) to accomplish his mission!! Let's be evil, huh?!

I'm really glad you could come over and vote. Scar was getting lonely!

  14. OK, I have to say I'm a little confused here (not unusual for me) and not quite seeing the comparision for this BATTLE. Two scary songs??? OK, I'm gonna run with that.

I've never seen 'Nightmare' somehow combining Halloween and Christmas just didn't appeal to me. I know, I know, a lot of people loved it, I just could never make myself sit down and watch it.

Anyway...as far as a creepy, scary, dispicable character factor (I assume that's what we're voting on/for) I gotta go with Oggie Boggie. Not that it does anything to entice me to see the flick.

    1. Fae,

Looking back, I realize I could have placed parameters but it seemed easier to let everyone choose their own. Maybe that was a big mistake, after all - seeing how the votes are falling. The battle definitely needed re-thinking, but at the time, my thinking had flown the coop (so to speak). I've been in a 'Fibro Fog,' going on two months now. Talk about confused!!

I'll log you for Oogie Boogie Man. Thank you for voting.

I also hope you'll improve daily!

  15. My cohort very easily voted for Oogie Boogie Man, and I love that song, too, but I have to give my nostalgia vote to Be Prepared. That movie was my absolute favorite as a kid, and I still know the words to every single song because of it. Jeremy Irons has such a wonderfully menacing voice for this. Long live the king!

    1. B&B ~ I love it when you guys vote. It makes me feel like... a motherless child! (kidding about the motherless part).

One for the Oogie bag of wind, and one for the clawful sound of fury. Thank you very much!
