Results for Battle # 1 for January 1, 2015

First off... a special thank you to the HOSTS of this musical blog hop!

Stephen T. McCarthy presents Battle of the Bands

Farawayeyes

What happened? Who won?

Originally I wasn't going to use this song for a "Battle of the Bands," post... (You're comment is true, StMcC). I truly liked the song and thought it might be worthy... and maybe I could find a challenger. There were a lot of church and college choirs to choose from. None had the audio quality like the one chosen, and yet it was a bit lacking. In the movement from 'audience balcony to stage finale' arrangement, the Patrick George choir suffered audio clarity as well. In short it was a long shot to use this song at all. Still it was the "Amen" addition to the original Robert Wise composition, that felt so inspiring (Your comment is true for many, John Holton). So I hit the ground, running.

Either way I wouldn't have been disappointed (well, maybe not by much), as this song is a treasure of rounds and sounds. For me this was one of those Stevie Wonder, "Songs in the Key of Life," moments. I wanted to hear this song over and over, as sung by the Patrick George choir... so there's my vote!

  1. Sorry I missed it. I didn't even turn on my computer on New Year's Day.

  2. It looked like a pretty close Battle for awhile but I see that in the end the Patrick George Choir pulled away convincingly.

Well, that was a good debut BOTB and I hope you'll be back again on January 15th.

    1. I wasn't sure Patrick was going to make it either.

[Excuse me, but I'm got a couple of checks to get in the mail.(smile).]

Yeah, I've got music picked out until sometime end of March, maybe April. Also, someone pull the old Santana threat. I'll be seeking revenge with a screaming guitar, soon as I find one.

  3. Interesting....although I didn't follow the battle beyond casting my vote, I figured the Unknowns would pull an upset!

    1. I know Kim. I had pretty much chalked it up that my choir was out on their "Amens."

I hope you BOTB went well. I'll be by to check it out. First I gotta go find a screaming guitar for a Dogg - any suggestions?

  4. This is another case where flash won over purity of sound. I still stand by my choice of the first choir.

Good Battle though and I look forward to the next one you put together.

    1. Hi Lee. In many cases I'm sure that you are right... but for me, and I can only speak for me... I loved the arrangement... loved the ending...

I didn't really expect this turnout at all. I figured the #1 would win... the gap between the two (8-4) was surprising as well.

Thank you, I hope to get the hang of what I'm doing soon. I also appreciate your comment on your blog to me, and the one here as well.
